Synopsis

!Women Art Revolution is a hair-raising documentary, based on the rise of the feminist art movement. Through this movement, women raised objections against the shackles put on them in the world of art, politics and even society, in general. The revolution has its roots in the 1960s, when there were several all-men protests against war and for demanding civil rights. This awakened the women, to raise their own standard in the society, to stand on their own feet and support the causes they believe in. This realization was probably the cause of an increasing number of divorce rates in America at that time. The documentary is a compilation of the interviews, collected by director Lynn Hershman Leeson, throughout her forty year career. Some of the memorable events depicted in the documentary are the parliamentary protests against the women art revolution by conservative politicians, and the emergence of the ground-breaking Guerilla Girls.
