Synopsis

The First Grader is an emotional as well as social drama, which has a character named Maruge as its protagonist. The film starts by showing how the Kenyan government has pledged to provide education to all the citizens of the country, no matter how backward the area of inhabitation is.

There’s this place on the top of a hill, where students have flocked in to avail this basic form of education, free of cost. Suddenly, they hear a person’s voice, who wants to join them in their class. Download The First Grader, as it tells you who this person is, and why he is so desperate to study with them. Actually, this man is Maruge, who is over 80 years of age. He belongs to the Mau Mau community and has fought the battle of freedom for Kenya. As you stream this movie, you come across the fact that he has no qualms about sitting with kids, who are as young as 6 years old! But this is something which the locals are completely against.

They would simply not permit an old man to attend classes, which their kids are enrolled into. The same attitude is demonstrated by the school authorities. The only person who stays by his side is the teacher, who is actually able to feel Maruge’s desire to study, and who would go to any extent to make sure the man’s wish is not curbed.
