Synopsis

Miss Bala is the story of beautiful dreams gone ugly, which will make you cringe with disgust over its antagonists, and hopefully wish its endearing central character well. Laura Guerrero, played by Stephanie Sigman, is a tall and beautiful Mexican girl, who aspires to be a beauty queen. Her economically deprived background and the violent society that she lives in, serve as major impediments to her dream.

However, with the kind of staunch determination that she has, it should be no trouble for her to make her dreams come true. Together with her best friend Suzu, she begins dancing in a gangland disco, and becomes the center of attention of the town’s gangsters. This happens as a bombing takes place in the disco, leaving many dancers dead. Just when she thinks that death lies a few steps away from her, her life takes an about turn, as she gets noticed for her beauty. The drug lord named Lino sees a huge potential in the ‘skinny girl from Tijuana’, and forces her into the business of drug dealing. Her life spins into a frenzy, as she goes from being a demure dancer to a driver and drug runner.
